The Forbidden Corner, near Middleham
The Forbidden Corner is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises created in a four acre garden on the Tupgill Park Estate near Middleham. Millgate House Gardens, Richmond
The garden at Millgate has been featured in publications around the world. Although a small garden, its situation overlooking the River Swale with the waterfalls in the background and the intensive planting make it unique and very special. The garden was selected out of 3200 in 1995 for the R H S/Daily Mail National Garden Competition's First Prize. The Station, Richmond
This award-winning conversion of Richmond’s old railway terminus is one of the area’s most popular social venues and tourist attractions. Under one roof, it houses a café/restaurant, ice-cream maker, two cinema screens, a craft bakery, an artisan cheese-maker, a micro-brewery, a fudge maker, purveyor of preserves and chutneys, an art gallery and Heritage Centre - complete with videos, old posters and railway memorabilia.
There is parking on site but The Station is only a short walk from the centre of Richmond. If you are looking for a longer excursion then The Station is conveniently placed at the start of a picturesque circular walk to Easby Abbey which follows the River Swale. Thorp Perrow, near Bedale
Just south of Bedale, Thorp Perrow Arboretum is one of the finest private collections of trees and shrubs in the country. Spread over 85 acres, there are tree trails, a nature trail and a children's trail, a large lake, picnic area and children's play area. There is also a tearoom and bird of prey and mammal centre. Situated 9 miles west of Scotch Corner on the edge of the A66 in beautiful Teesdale, Thorpe Farm is centred around an 18th century Peel House. The Wensleydale Railway
The Wensleydale Railway is an authentic heritage railway that offers a car-free day out in the Yorkshire Dales with lots to see and do along the way. Timetabled services run over the 16 miles from Leeming Bar to Redmire (for Bolton Castle).
